Talking Points from Chorley
Is David Wheater still hungover? He seemed to be beaten very easily, left for dead for Chorley`s second goal. The big centre-back celebrated our promotion by going what seemed to be a two week bender, which was well deserved it must be said. Maybe he was just getting over it?
Chris Taylor`s performance was well-received. Obviously, there will be someone who will say that he has finally found his level. But it is an interesting point. Will Buckley and Filipe Morais are both on-board now, which would make Taylor surplus to requirements in theory. Either he moves into the middle potentially, or he`s likely to move on this summer.
It was a day where the younger players outshone the bigger names. While David Wheater looked 'knackered`, as one of our Twitter followers put it, and Adam Le Fondre struck a free kick that landed somewhere in Preston, Harry Brockbank and Ryan White were the ones on the scoresheet, as the second half team overturned a two goal deficit from the first-half to win 3-2. While pre-season results don`t really matter, it`s nicer to win games than to lose, and especially if it sees young, new players stake a claim.
We also fielded a trialist in big Swiss striker Haris Tabakovic. If you hope he`ll be a goalscoring sensation out of nowhere I wouldn`t get excited. For his entire club career he has 13 goals in 57 league games. 11 of those came in 24 appearances for Wil in 2014-15, although interestingly for us, they came for a team struggling at the bottom of the second tier.
One transfer on the rumour mill is another defender which we probably don`t need now. Isaac Donkor of Inter is a player we have asked to loan, according to Sky Sport in Italy. Quite frankly, I`m not sure he is needed at this time, especially as he is more of the right-sided variety.
