Goodbye Davies and Wilson (And Moxey)

Goodbye Davies and Wilson (And Moxey)
More releases!

Three more players left Bolton Wanderers today: Mark Davies, Dean Moxey and Lawrie Wilson will leave the club, although Davies will stay around to complete his recovery from his injury. Firstly, I think nobody will really miss Moxey. One of Dougie Freedman`s 986989 signings from Crystal Palace, he never really impressed everyone in his three seasons with us, and was firmly second choice left back last season.

Lawrie Wilson did well this season, and was solid enough, but I can only assume Phil Parkinson thinks we need to be stronger in that area in a higher division. I assume all the other out of contract players will be at least offered deals, as ever with Wanderers it`ll be a case of money.

But I wanted to write more about Mark Davies. His departure is probably the saddest of all those who will leave this summer. I`m not arguing against it. At the end of the day, he`s an extremely injury prone player who was undoubtedly a big earner. But on those occasions where his body would let him, there is no doubt there was a technically gifted player who has basically had his career ruined by misfortune, and probably could have been capped for England.

His debut performance against Tottenham was as good as you could see for a 20 year old midfielder, there was that goal against Blackpool, starting and finishing a move like that, to level in injury time when most would launch it in. There were goals away at Wolves, away at Sheffield Wednesday.

He had wonderful quality, and would walk into any team we had in the last six years. If he had stayed fit. But he could never do that, with long layoff after long layoff. Even early on this season, it was him and Zach Clough providing the silkier side to a steely team. But when he came off at Charlton, and the injury was confirmed, it was one injury too much.

He`s 29 now, there might a few years for him to claw some sort of potential back, he could still play in the Championship if he got his body right. I actually feel sorry for him.

Goodbye Mark Davies, and good luck.

Was this a good point gained, or two points dropped? A bit of both, ultimately, Bolton are still out of the drop zone, and even moved up a place in the league following yesterday`s 1-1 draw with Ipswi
