Vital Bolton Player of the Season: The Nominations

Vital Bolton Player of the Season: The Nominations
Finally, it's here. The nominations for the Vital Bolton Player of the Season. I have named five players who are the nominations, and you the readers can choose the winner by using the poll facility on the site. Voting will close at 10pm on Thursday.

I've made a point of picking players who have been at the club all season. Admittedly, that's a touch unfair on Zach Clough, Adam Le Fondre and Filipe Morais, who have all made huge contributions. But anyway, they'll live. Here are the nominations

Mark Beevers
I don`t like to be smug, but when Beevers signed in the summer I thought he would be a good signing. And he`s proved exactly that. A real presence at the back, and also has added some crucial goals to his game this season, none more memorable than the injury time winner at Southend.

Gary Madine
He isn`t a prolific goalscorer, he isn`t technically great. But nobody can deny his value to Bolton, and the style of play Phil Parkinson employed this season. Everyone pretty much knows the stats now. When he played, we usually won. We didn`t win a single league game that he didn`t start in. If you wanted to see that in a microcosm, we were wobbling until Madine made a premature return from his shoulder knock to win our final two games and seal promotion.

Jay Spearing
The most consistent of our central midfielders in my opinion, hasn`t always got the headlines but does I feel deserve a nomination. Also scored a belting goal against Sheffield United on the opening day.

Josh Vela
Particularly earlier on in the season, Vela was superb. Moved into a number ten role in the first half of the campaign, Vela was influential, the advanced position helping bring goals to his game. Since the move to three at the back he has dropped into central midfield which is his more traditional role.

David Wheater
Defence, goals. You could pretty much say the same stuff as you would for Beevers. Wheater had been initially released but returned to the club on reduced terms, and his return has proved to be crucial. Even last season I thought he did okay given the circumstances when he could play, but fitness problems put pay to that. This time he has more or less kept fit all season.
