BWFC: Nowt Teken`Out

The Jermaine Beckford saga continues to throw up twists and turns… The latest being the biggest to date.

It seemed a 'done deal' only last week. Dougie Freedman was set to bring the Leicester City striker to the Reebok on a seven-figure fee, only for the deal to splay on all fours at the final furlong. Now, unbelievably, Dougie could be about to land Beckford for absolutely nowt!

An injury to Foxes striker David Nugent was reported to being the reason Nigel Pearson was reluctant to let Beckford meet up with his new teammates. Now, reports have emerged, a large chunk of cheese is owed to Everton if he plays just one more game for the boys in blue. Leicester are talking to their well-travelled hit-man about cancelling the remaining duration of his contract… effectively making him a free agent.

If all this is indeed true, it would go a long way in explaining why Sam Ricketts` contract was invalidated last week as he navigated his move away to Wolves. Not only in terms of how these deals work but why we let the versatile defender leave for free after a monetary deal had already been struck.

Anyhoo, if Douglas can land Jermaine for nothing and he still wants another striker, who do you think he has in mind? I`m saying nothing…

Raheem Sterling has been mentioned as a potential loan signing, apparently Liverpool have rejected the approach but that doesn't mean it's all over. No idea who else DF might be after unless he's still poking his nose at Rhodes. Looks like Spearing is on his way to Blackburn as long as they can get the cash together.

Dougie must be happy with his mid-field, not to have bid for Spearing. £3 million was the mooted figure originally, yet it now appears he can go for half that sum. A big plus for Blackburn!.....Or is it? There may others suitors bidding now they know the price!

The performances Spearing put in last season, you would have expected a Premiership club to make a move for him. Especially the age he is and the value Liverpool are now prepared to accept.

I could be completely wrong but the signs suggest we are broke, I might like to think the club has enough in the war chest for one more big signing but I have yet to see any evidence of that, everything points to the contrary. Maybe the club feels reasonably confident both Holden and Wheater will slot back into the squad, with due attention now focused on the attack ? who knows for sure ? should Beckford turn up it would not instil me with any confidence our stock in forwards has been improved at all - all I see is a shuffling of deck chairs with only the names changing

Give us some names, Mike. Within the realms of Financial Fair Play rules and league we find ourselves in, which striker would you target?
