'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Evening everyone. So, the ticket prices for next season`s season tickets have been announced, and there is a bit of a rise. As someone who will benefit from the restructure in pricing to allow the U21 pricing level to cover up to U23s, I should be a man happy with the announcement. I`m not.

Let`s look at visiting the Reebok as a product, and as an experience. A visit, or going to a gig or a West End show. You need a quality product that is value for money, which generates memories and makes you coming back for more. I`m not certain that our product is of very high quality. The thing that confuses me is that the club believe that they can raise prices at a time when fans are staying away in their thousands due to the lack of value for money. Yes, before next season the prices had remained frozen for several years, but in that time we have fallen from European contenders to not the best team in the Championship. There may be more games in this level, but we`ve gone from facing Ronaldo to Albert Adomah (who? Exactly) and this certainly should be reflected in what we pay.

An idealised visit to see my football club would be to pay very little to watch my team win, in a packed out stadium that doesn`t stop singing from start to finish. I know that the reality is very different from this Hollywood picture of football, but does it need to be? I believe that the club`s objective when looking at ticket prices should be to try to sell out every game, and I find it hard to believe that this is actually the case. A stadium filled with fans that haven`t had to sacrifice a hefty whack of their disposable income to watch a team like ours would be happy fans indeed. Do you think that people would grumble so much in the ground if they hadn`t had to choose between the game and something else, only to be disappointed? I don`t think so.

Nobody likes to be in a half-full stadium either. There just isn`t the atmosphere at the Reebok that I wish there could be, and what do you expect with all the empty seats? Knock the price down and pack the place out. And just think about all the extra cash made from pies and booze. I`m just thinking out loud here…

In summary, I`ve talked about going to the game as a product, which it isn`t. It is a fortnightly pilgrimage; a religious experience that we cannot do without. The people in charge at the club are using this against us as they know many of us cannot bear to think about not having a season ticket. Swines. Well, that`s how the world works.

economics suggest supporters will go to games regardless of ticket costs and higher ticket costs imply the club has decided a 5% increase earns them pro rata as much money from 15000 in attendance than 15750 in attendance, on that basis, why not double ticket costs and earn the same from only 7500 at a game - yes its utterly stupid, better to lower costs , allow all children under 14 free entry, get 23000 + at every game and create new supporters from the young who represent the future, which seems like a good investment - the players have a youth academy why not create the same for the supporters. Watched a documentary the other night about german supporters - they paid around £13 pounds for a ticket to a top flight Bundesleague game and this included free public transport ( train or bus) thrown in, to and from the game. Over here you can pay £13 and more in public transport costs alone plus the ticket charge. I personally think our national game is swamped in greed and corruption supporters everywhere are treated with contempt, BWFC is no different, same mindset. Return to the old traditions, open the gates at half time allowing supporters to watch the 2nd half for free, the club might claim this would create public safety fears, I would argue it never created any problems at Burnden Park so why claim otherwise now. Money grabbing ego chasers with no genuine desire to look after the interests of supporters who represent the life blood of the club

If prices go up I expect an equal improvement in services (excluding team performance as its impossible to promise) so well start with staff who can pour a pint, a clock so we can always see the time left, some shelfs to stand our beer on, sound on the Ely for interviews, and free access to BWFC player. Otherwise stick your 5% where the sun don't shine.....

Telly not Ely, obviously.....

...oh and can we have more than 2 hand dryers per 500 people in the toilets please.....

Brilliant CC. Don't forget to put that in your online questionaire when it comes around. As I have, repeatedly, but to no effect. It just shows that the facilities are never visited by senior management, who, like politicians, are completely out of touch.

Mike - One thing that is wonderful value for money IS the public transport from all around Bolton from as far away as Chorley, Buses are available for the price of about £2 return. I know when I was using them it was £1.50 for many years but I think it went up recently.
Pedro1874
Still cheaper than Arsenal.

I remember the days when standing on the packed Burnden terrace during mid winter, one bloke decided against going to the toilet, instead he rolled up his programme and had a pee down the middle of it, right down the back of the overcoat worn by the guy stood in front of him. I was shocked, but then again thought " well it could have been worse " it was freezing about minus 10 degrees, as I watched with envy the lads wrapped up with thick coats, scarfs, drinking tea and whisky from hot thermas flasks, I noted 2 guys wearing nothing other than short sleeve T shirts holding pints of beer, their oversized guts hanging out, laughing and shouting, " the good old days !

I'd be happy enough if the staff serving pies and beer were able to clear the queue of people who started queuing at the beginning of half time before we get 5 minutes into the second half. I'd pay an extra 20% for that.

From Official BWFC "We've sold over 1,500 away tickets for the Barnsley game. Fans can pay on the day, but no 5-11 or student tickets will be available. #BWFC" Great support again. COYWM

I'm hearing Mavies out for 9 months. Hope it's wrong. If it is right, makes you wonder why we bother...
bwfc75
10 months - ******* ****. I wonder if, seeing as the club has had this happen so many times, their lawyers put a special clause into the contract dropping his wage to the minimum possible if injured. Poor bugger anyway - really bad luck but he does seem to be injury prone. Great shame as he just seemed to have found his niche in the way the team is playing.
Pedro1874
I would happily pay the extra if we could just keep our best players fit. I cant believe every time we seem to be getting somewhere this happens. Anyway good luck Mavies we look forward to having you back.
Boltongav
lucky he signed his new contract while he wont be able to play for at least 9 months of it.

I'm right with Chicory and mike on this. Whether we'd get a full stadium all the time with lower prices is another matter. But I'm sure it would help and for a supposedly forward looking club like bwfc would surely be a pioneering and creative step to take. If it did work and generated bigger crowds and an livelier atmosphere it would not only help the team but also build a stronger fan base for the future. When they've had £10 days in the past its usually brought a better gate, so surely better to get the money from more people paying a bit less. If you get people coming at a price they can afford they will keep coming, but conversely when people stop going its hard to get them back. At moment the price per game isn't too bad if you have an ST, but if you pay one off games it gets a bit painful. Alternative economics needed here I feel. God knows Bwfcs accounts are alternative enough.

Any chance of a match preview?
Boltongav
If you're lucky you might see one...

Clear the booze queues, more handryers, cut the prices? You'll be asking Uncle Phil to lend you £20 next!

What's up with drying your hands on your pants anyway? Bloody prawn sandwich brigade!!
