A native of the North East, Taylor spent seven years at Middlesbrough, with short loan spells at Bradford and Watford.

He left for Cardiff, where he was part of Malky Mackay's promotion winning team of 2013.

He joined Wigan in the summer of 2014, where he was relegated from the Championship in his first season. He joined Reading on loan for the 2015/16 season where he was regarded as unspectacular but solid.

He joined Wanderers on loan this summer.
