Bolton Only Lose By One Goal

Bolton Wanderers

Attendance: 31,451

Referee:

Bolton will go into the international break without a league win and have also finished September without a goal all month as they lost 1-0 to Aston Villa yesterday,
The only goal came towards the end of the first half, when Jonathan Kodjia converted from the spot.

Professional dirty (insert word of choice here) Neil Taylor was shown a straight red late in the game for a tackle on Adam Le Fondre.

Watching it, it seemed one of those games that if we were doing a lot better across the season as a whole, you could come away thinking, "meh, we matched them," at the end of the day, we went to a team who had come into form, they won only because of a penalty, and we had quite a few chances. I thought it was the best we have played for a good while.

Unfortunately, we`re still can`t buy a win, nor a goal, so 'playing well` isn`t going to make anyone feel better, nor really help us in our task of getting anywhere near safety.

The proof of the pudding on whether Saturday was a sign of relative improvement will be after the international break, Wednesday (who we have already beaten) and QPR (who surely we have to beat, but then we said that against Brentford, and that went really well).

Sammy Ameobi`s first start was pleasing to see, while David Wheater and Mark Little played well. Jem Karacan had his best game all season (more on that later), while Gary Madine was Gary Madine (if he could only score goals too.)

I thought the left side let us down. Adam Armstrong has done nothing since the cup game against Sheff Wednesday, but being stuck out on the wing is unlikely to help him, while Andy Taylor hasn`t really done any better than when Antonee Robinson got a go at left-back.

Star Player

As mentioned above, Jem Karacan had his best game in the Championship for us. His passes found their intended target nine times out of ten, he went on a great run that unfortunately ended with him sticking a shot wide, but he certainly gave the Villa defence something to do.
