Bolton Beaten Again

Referee:

Bolton`s increasingly difficult start to the season continued as Sheffield United inflicted a third straight defeat on us, with American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers scoring the only goal of the game.

While few would argue the effort was there, and compared to the recent thrashings at the hands of Hull and Middlesbrough, it was certainly an improved performance, but there was still a lack of imagination, particularly between the midfield and the front line.

Carter-Vickers, on loan from Tottenham, scored the goal in the 33rd minute, a shot from a set-piece had been blocked before the centre-back finished brilliantly.
Unfortunately, Bolton chances of real quality were far and few between. Jem Karacan had a late weak shot, while a Filipe Morais free kick looked for a moment as though it had found its target.

Bolton had reverted back to the wing-back system employed for most of the season, presumably to match up with Sheffield United`s identical formation. Antonee Robinson, not having to face Adama Traore again, fared better, while Mark Little had a good game on the right side. United`s crossing and tempo of play wasn`t as good as some of our opponents this season, which helped us to cope better.

Gary Madine put himself about, and Karacan was better than he has been this season, which largely isn`t difficult.

But last season we won that game. Last season, we beat Millwall, unlike this season. We need a win sooner than later.

Star Player

David Wheater`s season has been stop-start with injuries so far, but seemed much more up to speed tonight. A goal-line clearance, along with a few blocks, should hopefully give him a confidence boost going forward
