Preview: Sheff Wed v Bolton
It`s another big away game for Bolton tomorrow with another team who have been dragged into the relegation mire. We travel to Sheffield Wednesday, the victims of our first league victory of the season back in October. Throw in the League Cup victory too, and we`re going for a hat-trick of wins that would see us go above the Owls.
"We`ll have a think of how best to tackle the Sheffield Wednesday game, and I will talk to the staff as I usually do, check on the fitness of some of the lads. If we`re talking style of play then I think the better teams mix it up…but if the effort isn`t there, you can go on about systems all you like. It just won`t work."
Phil Parkinson in the Bolton News.
Sheffield Wednesday Team News:
Sheffield Wednesday are without about 150 of their first-team squad due to injury, but Daniel Pudil, Frederico Venancio and Sean Clare could all make a return, but top-scorer Gary Hooper is part of that long injury list, as is ex-Wanderer Barry Bannan.
Player to watch: Adam Reach
Likely to be on the left, Reach is Wednesday`s biggest creative threat, with eight assists this season. He can also score some wonderful goals, one in the opening seconds at Aston Villa in November sticking in the mind.
Bolton Wanderers Team News:
Jan Kirchhoff will be assessed after being involved in two games in a week, Josh Vela and Jem Karacan are both waiting to step in if needed. Again, changes could be made in terms of formation and personnel.
Player to watch: Mark Beevers
A former Sheffield Wednesday man returning to a club he won promotion with back in 2012, Beevers has played well in recent weeks and another strong performance will be needed on Saturday,
Match Facts & Stats
Bolton are looking for a third win over Sheffield Wednesday this season, having beaten nobody else more than once. We won home games in the Carabao Cup second round (3-2) and in the league (2-1)
Wanderers have a very good recent record at Hillsborough. We lost 3-2 last time out in January 2016, but won our last three before that, stretching back to Mark Davies and Marcos Alonso sealing a 2-1 win in 2012.
Bolton have lost three and drawn two of their last five away games.
Sheffield Wednesday have lost three of their last five at Hillsborough in the Championship, the only win in that run coming against Derby.
In fact that win for the Owls still remains manager Jos Luhukay`s only league win since taking over in January.
I`ll be pessimistic and go for a 2-1 defeat. It would just be too good to get three wins over a team in one season, at the same time, this is one of the best chances of getting a second away win we`ll have.
We face Aston Villa at home next week, and then after the international period we travel to Leeds on Good Friday.
