Derby vs. Bolton Wanderers

Pride Park

19 Feb 2013

Bolton Wanderers: Derby Preview

Evening all, and thanks to Dan for the article yesterday. Today we face another East Midlands team, one sitting 5 points above us and 9th in the table. Derby is one of those clubs that I know very little about in the Championship. The last time we were in the same league as them was 07-08; a disastrous year for us, but even more so for them. To say I haven`t followed their fortunes since is somewhat of an understatement; I know very little of the squad that Clough Jnr has assembled. I also missed the game early on in the season as I was very, very ill, so have little to base my opinion of them on. However, every game is this league so far has been a struggle, and I expect the same tonight at Pride Park.

Vital Quotes:

Douglas is positive. He told the club website: "It will be a tough game on Tuesday night because Derby are very good at home. They play with a high tempo and they make sure they get crosses in the box. The way we have been playing, especially away from home, our character is building especially after Saturday and Derby have a few weaknesses which I think our players can exploit. I can see a very close game but I can definitely see goals on Tuesday night.

Derby Team News:

Several Derby players are out. Do I recognise their names? No.

Player to watch: Conor Sammon

I`ve heard of this one! Signed from Wigan in the summer if I`m not wrong. He`s a good forward, and will cause our defence problems. Whenever I`ve seen him play, he gets booked or sent off. Not sure if he`s managed to get out of his game yet.

Bolton Wanderers Team News:

Some big names should be returning to the first team after they weren`t included in the reserve fixture yesterday. Does this meanů..

Player to watch: STU-SA!!!!!

I hope so! We all know what he can do against Premier League midfields, so imagine what he`ll do to a midtable Championship side, even if he isn`t 100%. Exciting.

Match Facts & Stats

We haven`t won there in our last eight. We haven`t won away in our last seven. Will tonight be the night to change that?

Match Prediction:

I`ve got a feeling. I shouldn`t do but I have. 1-0 Wanderers.

Next Fixtures:

Two home games; Hull on Saturday, shortly followed by Peterborough on Tuesday.

Ngog and Craig Davies up front!!! Dougie has been reading our comments, let's just hope we can say "told you so" at 10pm.
But we can't. Too cagey again today. Basically a decent performance and we could and should have won, but need up nearly losing. If only we would attack teams with more venom and turn technical quality into goals. Defence better again tonight but always dodgy tactics to rely on the clean sheet. Bah.
Skopelos Chris
Good job we have sorted the defence as we managed to keep Derby to only 22 shots! Still a 1-1 draw isn't a loss but it doesn't help much either. Two wins in the home games now please.
Tell you what we think we're bad but look at Wolves, they really are in trouble and played more games too...
Skopelos Chris
how can a performance be decent when you fail to score, grabbing a point courtesy of an own goal, we could have lost. it is always about attacking and scoring, I fail to see ( again) why our best 11 were not playing - look at Hull, new loan players straight in the team no messing - scoring the goals - don't hear Bruce going on about fitness levels or these lads need to see how we do things around here first, the system, before they can consider being picked - what a load of cobblers !! its a mess, someone should give DF a labrador and a stick.

DF quote " i can definately see goals on Tuesday night" yeh right,, not from your own team. Such a good manager.

Just lucky they were as poor as us. I went and am getting increasingly frustrated with the "gameplan". We had about ten minutes of attacking and excitement towards the end but our toothless attack couldn't get an effective shot in. Not very optimistic for Saturday against Hull. They will be very optimistic if they had people watching this game. Fans were the quietest I have witnessed away too just proving what SuperJohn said. BTW ED. Where are the stats and the new poll?
Shots 22 10 On target 10 6 Corners 7 4 Fouls 15 17 Amazed they had 22 shots, it didn't seem like that to me but their keeper wasn't too troubled and I am also surprised that we had 10!
Same old Same old! a keeper who can't keep, defenders who cant defend, midfielders who cant create and strikers who cant strike. Whoever keeps harping on about the quality of our squad needs to turn it in. I'm with Mike. Freedman and his gameplan is cobblers! Next season is gonna be a testing time. No TV revenue and all the people who bought season tickets last year on the belief we would take the championship by storm certainly won't be shelling out again. Begging for a sign of improvement on saturday, please Dougie ffs just give us some hope to hang onto!
Holden and Sordell on the bench, Ngog starting, was still optimistic though. Followed the Skysports commentary (written, not radio). I was just begging for the second goal until he brought SKD on , and then it changed to just hoping to hang on. Typical ****** , kinda used to the mediocrity now. Freedmans getting on my tits. When you need another goal you don't bring on SKD, these days he's better used if you wanna try and hold the ball and waste a bit o' time.... Dougies wasted all our 9 lives by my reckoning, the slimmest of slim chances to scrape the playoffs are all but gone....
No start or appearance for Holden ?*%#
I assume our true priorities such as winning games, getting the points to climb the league - are requirements senior management at the club assumed would take care of themselves, simply because we are ex premiership quality - regardless of the fact half of the premiership teams are no better than half of the championship. Our attack is woeful, blunt, without vision or penetration, yet the attack is the most important aspect of the team as they get the goals. I would not be surprised should it transpire if Holden is simply nursed along until the end of the season when he will be sold or he leaves for free. I hear N'Gog is subject to a current bid and may depart very soon, guess the club need the money more than the player. If we get a result on Saturday the flickering light of hope will reignite once again, thought I sadly suggest that light may go out if we lose. A win Saturday would set us up for the following home game against Peterborough, 6 points and consecutive victories would reignite everyone. Despite my concerns and critisism for how DF has managed the team to date, which only deepens with every passing game, I remain mindful the fat lady has not yet started singing, though she is gargling and shuffling around in her chair. Picking up on swedesbwfc comment about bringing SKD on, a valid point, why bring a carthorse on who fouls at will, stops the attack, is totally unable to score when your priority is a goal - why not Sordell or even Holden ?
aussie mike
Vela not even on the bench? Why? Sordell came on for Craig D on 74th minute and scored a great goal which was unfortunately from an offside position. Just watched the highlights and Derby were far better than us in creating and shooting. No video of their keeper saving anything from a Bolton attempt! Lots of Bogdan palming out, luckily not to a Derby player, and some other very good saves that I just could not see from my seat as they were all at the far end in the second half.
Hey Pedro - hope you might have something to cheer about late Saturday, you certainly deserve that as do all the loyal fans who support the club home and away - I take my hat off to you, you all deserve respect. I did exactly the same for 20 years, as far afield as Portsmouth, Southampton, etc good days, good team, good manager, etc.
aussie mike
