Bolton Wanderers: Howay The Replay!

A late afternoon to all you Vital Bolton readers. Let`s keep this brief, with the game only a couple of hours away. We probably should`ve wrapped this up in the first game, but after a spirited fightback, the Mackems look like favourites for the replay down their way.

Vital Quotes:

Douglas revealed in his press conference that he intends to have both Holden and Vela in the squad. Exciting!!!

He told the club website: "Josh and Stuart will be involved tomorrow night. I don`t know if they`ll play but they`ll be in the squad. I think the two have proved their fitness in the last three or four weeks. It`s very difficult for Stuart in particular. We`ve got to be very careful. With Josh it`s a little bit easier as he`s only had three or four months out. They`re two good players to have around the squad again."

I expect that they both will be on the bench, and will play very minor roles. A late substitute appearance if the game is already lost is probably all we could really hope for Stu. I`d be very surprised if he started. Not that I wouldn`t be giddy like a schoolgirl over the latest Smash Hits magazine. That`s still a thing, right?

Sunderland Team News:

Sunderland`s new signing, Alfred N'Diaye, is ineligible for the match because he wasn`t registered by the club before the initial cup tie. I wasn`t aware that was a rule, and am surprised that something that appears so archaic is still around. Anyway, good for us. Rose and Cuellar are also out with hamstrings suffered when playing in the 2-2 draw against us.

Player to watch: Titus Bramble

I hope you realise why I think Titus is so key. He is truly a shocking defender, and despite a couple of solid years at Wigan, I cannot see why the calamity-happy stopper is still plying his trade in the top division. He makes Zat Knight on a bad day look like Carlos Puyol. If he plays, we`ve got a much better chance of nicking it, especially if he can make mistakes like he did in the first match.

Bolton Wanderers Team News:

As mentioned above, Holden and Vela in. Wheater is still a bit far behind, and hasn`t made an appearance for the reserves yet, despite being back to full first team training. Oh, and the rule I mentioned earlier? It stops Craig Davies playing.

Player to watch: Marvin Sordell

He was my key man at the weekend and is my key man today. He didn`t get too long against Millwall, but he performed well enough in my eyes to give him a run out from the start. I`m hoping this Twitter ban has been partnered with a metaphorical clip round the head. He appears, at least, to be giving his all when he gets onto the pitch, and that`s all we can really hope for.

Match Facts & Stats

Sunderland have got past us five out of the six times we`ve been drawn against them in the cup. Lets change that, ok?

Match Prediction:

If they put out a full side; we`re out. If they decide to rest a few; we have a chance. I expect us to play a full team, and make a good go of it.

Next Fixtures:

Palace away this weekend, before Peterborough visit the Reebok the week after. COYWM!!!

hope the game gives reason for Robmoss, Fredmadagascar, Pedro,Boltongav,bwfc75,muur,Elcyn,anorak, etc, etc to smile and praise events. As for me, im'e to far gone. Seriously, going into a game as underdogs leaves little room for dissapointments afterwards. For the sake of our intrepid fans who will journey to attend the game I hope the effort and performance is 100% regardless of result.

I wasn't fortunate enough to go to the reserve game against Oldham, but from what I've heard, Holden didn't look as though his game had been affected too much by his injury, so I'd be more than happy for him to get twenty minutes. Obviously as I type this I'm stifling tears due to not being mentioned in aussie mike's list.
thingymajig
Anyone know if its televised, and if so, any links to free livestream???? Fecking dreaming I know, but, just, maybe...........
swedebwfc
yeah Thingy, me too. No mention, he should be shipped off to a faraway island for that..
swedebwfc
Well aussie mike thanks for that because with 75 mins gone we are 2-0 up and super students holden has just returned. COYWM. Even you can allow a small smile?
Boltongav
Blood corrective text super stuart holden not students holden
Boltongav
I can't quite believe it! Still time for our defence to capitulate though - let's hope not. Also good to see Sordell coming good with the goals. Would like to see him start more.
Skopelos Chris
Great win. Lets hope we can make it an unprecedented two in row with a repeat showing at Palace...have a feeling that might just be the IPA talking though
Skopelos Chris
Cleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaan sheeeeeeeeeeeeet oh and a win. Now to beat dougies rejects.
Boltongav
Woooooooohooooo Clean sheet Away win Holden on for a short period Sordell scoring 2 Phil Brown said they looked good feels nice to have a big stupid grin again !!
ChicoryCoffee
Obviously I missed out all the punctuation so that Fred could correct it....
ChicoryCoffee
Yay.
Muur
Apologies to thingymajib, swedebwfc and skopelos, my errant memory embarrasses me again. Congrats to the team are in order. I note with caution some of the main press claim the game was awful, however, last nights victory must have a positive effect as attention turns to Saturday
aussie mike
chicorycoffee !! G'day, Fred must be marking his school books.
aussie mike
Great Win. Feels good. I really hope Freedman sticks with a winning team. Enough tinkering now. Lets give Sordell every opportunity to be the striker he was tipped to be. 3 goals in 3 games his confidence is growing, he has to start against palace
Danfarn80
Dead right danfarn stick with the team in the main now. Maybe just start holden and wheater when he is fit.
Boltongav
Holy f'ing moley. We won. And apparently, we won well. Away. At the Stadium of *****e. Don't get me wrong - as Premiership sides go, Sunderland are rubbish, and are very much in the relegation mire. They probably won't go down, but if they're not careful, they'll be mighty close. But all that said, most of the properly highly paid staff we had are gone now and we're a Championship side, so the odds were always against us. We soaked up the pressure and came away with a fourth round tie against Everton, who will surely beat us, but the important thing is that we won, we got a clean sheet, away from home as well. Awesome!
robmoss2k
Brilliant win. Couldn't go with that snow forecast but managed to listen to the whole game on Tower FM. Huge difference with Sordell and Afobe up front. Afobe played his best game too and Vela was very impressive. Let's just hope Craig Davies gets a lift with the confidence in the squad and we can start hitting the old barn door for a change. Please Dougie LEARN from that game that N'gog and SKD do NOT work together as we told you before. Great to see more posters joining and participating with Vital Bolton. Al - get your act together and find out how to publish the stats and change the polls!
Pedro1874
Got a few texts last night about student Holden!! lol
Pedro1874
Look at us all positive isn't it wonderful, just gives you a warm fuzzy feeling!! Let's hope we all feel the same after Saturday. I think we might just have turned the corner or at least be on the corner when only a couple of weeks ago we couldn't even see the corner. I can't believe you had texts about students holden I must be becoming a legend in my own lunchtime. Either that or we all need to get out more.
Boltongav
is there a suggestion the attack was more lethal without SKD ? While I have believed that to be the case for a long while, in so far as a lone striker up front on his own slowed down our attack helping the opposition, I respect the opinion of others and I acknowledge his efforts and his goals this season
aussie mike
The proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say. Two strikers seems to be the way forward. I think like you we all respect skd but the time appears to have come for the next generation.
Boltongav
Chicory...your corrections will be along in due course. By the way are you lot alluding to me being a teacher are you ganging up and calling me a pedant?!
FredMadagascar
As for Thingy and Swede, you probably didn't make it on to King Michael of All the Australian's list because you are just not jaded and cynical enough. Bit of work needed here chaps!
FredMadagascar
Dead chuffed to see Vela starting and playing well...and Student Holden getting on. As for a warm fuzzy feeling about the Superwhites, I am all in favour of that! I did actually predict on twitter a hat-trick for Marvellous Marvin so am feeling a tad let down. By the way, I have no marking tonight but have to sort out the school's PE budget and order shed loads of equipment. So now you know!
FredMadagascar
Bring on the palace. Douglas should be well up for that. And just maybe he will have seen something he likes from the Mackem match and banish the fear and go for their juggular from the start. Might just have a small wager on that Marvellous hat-trick!
FredMadagascar
beware the ides of March, on swallow does not a summer make, though it is only January. we have witnessed that many steps backwards & forwards I think Reville Horwood is on our coaching staff, as for our predicted final finishing spot in the league, just hope it ain't a " 7 "
