Bolton Sell Proctor to Rotherham

Bolton Sell Proctor to Rotherham

It had been on the cards for a bit, but Jamie Proctor has left us, to stay in League One after a transfer to Rotherham United went through today.

The writing for Proctor at Wanderers was on the wall from his loan out to Carlisle in the January window. If we hadn`t gone up, there might have been a route for him to be a part of the squad this season, but we did, so there would be no way a striker deemed not good enough for the league he had been signed to play in would be seen good enough to play the next level up.

Any Rotherham fans who are reading need not despair just yet. At Bradford he did pitch in with a few goals, roughly a reasonable 1 in 4 record, but with us it never happened. Gary Madine was the favoured target man, and when Proctor got a chance in the league, he never took it, against Bradford his knockdowns went to so many opposition players you could be forgiven for thinking nobody had told him about his summer move.

The most surprising thing about the move is that we may have persuaded Rotherham to part with money. A figure of £75,000 has been banded about, and profit is profit.

While one leaves, some of the younger prospects in the club have signed professional contracts. Goalkeeper Jake Turner is one, which would suggest to me it is time to try and move on one of our senior goalkeepers. We don`t need all three of Ben Amos, Mark Howard and Ben Alnwick. Jeff King has also earned a deal, and would have seen first team football last season if it weren`t for embargo-related issues. Hopefully we`ll get a look at him this season.
