Trotter Proving His Worth

Trotter Proving His Worth

Dougie Freedman has praised the impact that loanee Liam Trotter has had at Bolton with him believing that he's proving the 'boo boys' wrong.

Upon his arrival from Millwall some supporters targeted him but as the season has gone on Freedman believes he's started to win people over with him finding it hard to explain 'how much quality' he bring to the club.

The midfielder played in a deeper role against Sheffield Wednesday with him opening the scoring in that three-one win at the weekend and that goal showed technique that the Bolton boss doesn't think all could have managed.

Freedman told the Bolton News: 'Honestly, I feel like he`s had a bit of a harsh time from one or two of the fans, and undeservedly so.

'He`s come into the team and worked hard to try and gel.

'His role (against Wednesday) as a deep-lying midfielder, breaking from deep, was fantastic.

'I think on two or three occasions he did exactly what we needed and then to cap it all off he scored with a great technical volley that not a lot of people could have scored.'

Trotter is expected to complete a permanent move to the club in the summer and with Freedman saying 'Liam is someone at 24 years of age that can have a fantastic time at Bolton' that tends to suggest he will make the switch.

Is/was Trotter one of those you didn't rate, do you now?

Mr Ecky sends his best to the Vital Bolton community, he's currently not well, he'll be back as soon as possible and in the meantime, he's got a staff writer to fill in for him.

If anyone has something to share in the meantime (this gives a genuine Bolton point of view from a Bolton fan!) feel free to fire an email through.

You do have to agree with Dougie. It IS hard to explain how much quality he has brought to the club! That's because we haven't seen very much of it so far! It's no wonder the fans were not impressed, Trotter was pretty awful in the first few matches he played. Whether he had to get up to speed with conditioning, fitness or the plan, I don't know. But I will be the first to hold my hand up next season, if he proves most people wrong. And hand in my 'grumpy old man' T-shirt into the bargain! Can't say fairer than that!
