Hard To Find Positives

Not sure what's up with you Mr Ecky but best wishes for your recovery.

Been to all the games since your illness but it is really hard to find positives. We keep losing points when we shouldn't without any reason. Worse still the selection is hard to follow. Yes Mason should be given a chance and he probably has a clause in his loan contract saying he should play. But should we drop a player with four goals in five games to let him in?

To be honest, our football has been poor of late. Our midfield can't find a player. There's no movement anyway and the strikers are non-existent. Personally, I would like to see Spearing replaced by Medo alongside Pratley. Not sure why Jay is always first on the teamsheet. I can't see Dougie making a change and I am not convinced the mercenary squad we have at the moment care anyway. I am going to Barnsley later and hope that we will get a result. We should because they are very poor but it won't make any difference we will still be bottom half and will stay there. I certainly hope that Dougie can start to turn the team around soon. It won't make any difference to me as I will always support the whites.

What has happened to the usual contributors while Ecky has been ill? Come on Ozzie, Muur, Bowton, Barney, Moonpig, Adlington, Skopelos and BoltonGav, show your passion and make some contributions while he recovers.

Go for it and I might join in!

Mr Ecky sends his best to the Vital Bolton community, he's currently not well, he'll be back as soon as possible and in the meantime, he's got a staff writer to fill in for him.

If anyone has something to share in the meantime (this gives a genuine Bolton point of view from a Bolton fan!) feel free to fire an email through.

Please include your username so I can put that to it though.

thank you Pdwanderer, your right, we need some contributions flowing in to this column - I would do the honours though I am not sure how I would assemble a piece while avoiding completely our financial problems - I have no wish to upset my fellow comrades in arms who see the blue mist whenever I mention money. I hope Mr Ecky is feeling better, must be particularly dreadful being ill at this time of year, which is a rather stupid thing for me to say considering there is never a good time to be ill. I have read some heart breaking stories in the news this last few days which helps to place things into their rightful perspective. I can only express my sincere respect and sympathy to everyone facing the most difficult and cruellest challenges that life and fate itself can bring down on us, it truly often comes down to no more than " there but for the grace of god "

I did send in a message well the contents of a message I exchanged with Mr Ecky a few days ago and a now poll. Unfortunately like Mike Iam ffinding it difficult to write anything that is not negative and I don't think you all want to keep reading that. Anyway I will try and formulate something later after the game which I am unfortunately missing but as usual COYWM. We really need something to hold onto as this season really is worse than last at the moment.

By the way thanks pwwanderer

Yes, thank you PDW and credit also for getting over to Barnsley. Rather you than me at the moment. We do indeed miss Mr Ecky and look forward to his welcome return. My own comments have been a bit sporadic ( get the pun anyone? )lately due to work and being abroad a bit but like the others above I am struggling to think of much new to say in the face of relentless lack of inspiration on the pitch. Depending on my post Barnsley mood I might try and find the muse. It's a good job we have such a lot of regular and insightful contributors on here to help fill the Ecky gap. Get well soon

Glad that my concerns about today were unfounded. I suppose it was all part of the long term plan. I wasn't at the game but did listen to parts on Tower, they said Pratley was again brilliant. That was just before half time and I didn't hear the second half. Seems that when he plays we win. Oh and amazingly Knight played and we kept a clean sheet. I hope we play Knight and Pratley in the next game.

any 1-0 victory is welcome but squeezing it against a poor Barnsley does not merit much praise, its death by a thousand cuts as DF gets the victory to earn a stay of execution once again. I assume his job will be secure as long as he keeps us away from the relegation places, while retaining a vague mathematical probability of reaching the play offs, of course that probability will linger even when it reaches the stage we have to win every remaining game while all the clubs above us have to lose all theirs. I cannot be sure which is worse - a useless manager or a useless chairman, the answer of course is both !

Yes, great to get the win but we need about thirteen further 1-0 wins to get back on track. Death by a thousand cuts a good analogy. Still I'm sure we'll whomp Leicester!
Skopelos Chris
I can only repeat what others have said, that if we were to write a piece, it would necessarily be of a negative nature, and no one wants to keep reading that! The last few matches have been quite depressing, result-wise and in their essence, even though we have played well in patches. Today seems to have unravelled in a similar way to the Wigan affair, with us being slow to start again and then picking up after half-time to put intense pressure on the home team and then finally, it's backs to the wall! I don't know how these slow starts have evolved recently, unless Dougie is being ultra conservative in his approach. We always used to start with a bang and then fall away later. Maybe it's his way of trying to rectify that situation and playing an even tempo for 90 minutes. If it is, it isn't working! I don't see why eleven very fit lads can't hit the ground running and maintain a high tempo throughout! I'm not saying boss a whole match!that would be impossible. But, it never seems to happen! They always play in fits and starts. Still, our away record is a bit better than it was last season. Pity the team can't win at home! When we crack that one, maybe we will move up the league. Enjoy the rest of St Stephen's Day and our three points!

Good win. I really didn't expect that though a sparkling shiraz haze. Lets hope we gain some momentum. 90 for Mave the Rave is a result. Danns da man again............2014 cannot be worse.COYWM
Nathans Phase
That's through not though
Nathans Phase
Mmm. Could be worse. Let's see
Skopelos Chris
With Danns and McNaughton gone I fear a trip to the league leaders will not be what is needed to boost confidence. Anything other than a defeat would be remarkable.

not wishing to contradict the thrust of all my comments to date this season, I think we are all aware that teams can respond to each other , be it lifting their game or dropping their game in line with the opponents. That said while I expect Leicester to dominate Saturday's game I would not be surprised if we make a good game of it and stay in the hunt - which might come across as a pun seeing we are up against the foxes. My fear is Leicester will capitalise on our traditional slow start and Nugent will again be our nemesis. It could turn out different if we hit our straps from the off or we get to half time as equals, even better if that remains come full time. Whatever transpires its fair to say this will be a litmus test, the first of 6 coming up and with 18 points up for grabs during that period a defining moment in mid season. Having weighed up these games my very worst prediction is 4 points while my most optimistic is 6 points, neither being what I would hope for, should they come to pass we really will witness the flicker of any possible promotion push disappear as the season descends into survival mode there on.
