'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Great News for Gary Megson

It`s not easy being Gary Megson. Avoiding the flaming pitchforks as he turns up for training every day is a chore, as is turning away the endless stream of taxis that have been ordered for him. Advance fees paid to the cab drivers are keeping the local economy afloat.

Now at last, there is some welcome relief for the Bolton manager. According to the latest Vital Bolton poll, only 66% of readers want him sacked. This might not seem like much of a triumph, but it`s a significant improvement on previous surveys.

Prior to his appointment, only 1.7 % of fans thought he was the man for the job, according to the Bolton News. Half of these turned out to be Megson`s relatives and the others have been sectioned under the mental health act.

There are a number of reasons for his newly found popularity. Back to back wins helps and sitting in mid-table, at least for the moment, can`t do any harm either. But the most significant, at the risk of sounding immodest, is this site`s 'Be Nice to the Ginger One` campaign launched on Monday. We`re expecting an appreciative letter from chairman Phil Gartside any day now.

Not sure its good for PR when the chairman of a football club who's fans have a certain disposition for another local team (who play at old stratford) frequents a bar named after the dirty colour they wear! Then to be so drunk he starts to show off and brag about all manner of unsavoury things,to the point of upsetting mild mannered locals at which point they are expelled from said establishment for venting there fury at such distaste and down right idiocy! Mr Davies, you have a serious issue regarding some of the people you employ! i suggest you start to look at alternatives!

I have to say I think the guy deserves at least the full season to see what exactly he can accomplish in this league. Barring 10 defeats on the bounce Gartside ain't going to sack him & the sooner we all accecpt that the better. The apathy at times is truly depressing. While he'll never be my first choice, stability is crucial in this league.
