'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Truly Horrifying Headline

It`s been a poor week for Wanderers fans. Defeats to Newcastle and Northampton, injuries to Matt Taylor and Johan Elmander and suspension for Gary Cahill have combined to make an encouraging start to the season seem like a distant memory. Hardware stores have reported a run on pitchforks and manager Gary Megson is making plans to go into hiding in Phil Gartside`s cellar.

Now the Bolton News has stuck the boot in with a gruesome headline. It reads: Wanderers to sign Polish striker. The collective intake of breath was such that a significant lowering of the air pressure was reported in East Lancashire. Everyone thought that Grzegorz Rasiak was on his way back.

Fortunately, it`s not that bad. Not quite anyway. The Pole in question this time is Euzebiusz Smolarek, whose achievements include scoring four goals in 34 appearances last season, bagging four less than that at the last World Cup and being suspended for a drug offence in 2002. Oh, goody.

Setanta report that the Racing Santander player will sign on for a year`s loan at the Reebok with Ricardo Vaz Te heading the other way. At least there`s some good news. See you Vaz. No, we aren`t missing you already.

Smolarek is a good goal scorer around the box. He has been a bit out of form after a very dissapointing Euro, but with a bit of effort i think he could be a cracking buy. He can play left wing or right wing or as a centre forward (his preffered position). He has some pace but lacks physicality. He may need to beef up for the Premiership, but he has skill.

Thanks for that. Let's just hope he isn't another Christian Wilhelmsson.

Is he decent?
